Sodium benzoate is often used together with potassium sorbate to form a preservative mixture that is effective against fungi and bacteria. Potassium sorbate is most commonly used in DIY cosmetic products, such as creams, lotions, shampoos, makeup, and sunscreen products. It should be dissolved in the water phase and adjusted to a final pH of around 4.4 for maximum efficacy. Vitamin E should be included in the formulation as an antioxidant. Keep well sealed and store away from children, animals, moisture, sunlight, and heat. If pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult with your medical care-giver before use. Some people experience an allergy to potassium sorbate. We advise to do a skin patch test first.

It is effective against mold and yeast, but is not effective against bacteria. Therefore is is most commonly used together with sodium benzoate, which is effective against fungi and bacteria.

HOW TO USE
Usage rate: 0.1-0.3%
Dissolve in the water phase.
Adjust the final pH to around 4.4 for maximum efficacy.
Potassium sorbate is not effective at all in products with a pH over 6, so please adjust your formulation accordingly.
